In Kyrgyzstan you can see the transition from the subtropical climate of the Fergana valley and the semi-desert of the Chui and Talas valleys to the eternal frost of the mountains. In summer months travelers can spend part of a single day in a sunny valley, in a flowering meadow high in the mountains and an ice-fall in glaciers high above the clouds so the climate of Kyrgyzstan is possible to allocate for four climatic zones: the valley zone (500-1000m above sea level). Characteristic feature - hot summer (up to +28 degrees). Average temperature of summer is +20-25, of winter is - 4-7. (temperature may be below -40 only in some of places). The middle mountains zone (900-2200m above sea level): characteristic feature - moderately warm summer (+18-19 degrees) and moderately cold steady snow winter (-7-8 degrees). The high-mountains zone (2000-3500m above sea level): characteristic feature - cool summer (+11-16 degrees) and cold winter (-8-10 degrees). Winter period is much longer. Nival zone (higher 3500m above sea level): Characteristic feature - summer (+4-7 degrees), winter (-19-22 degrees). It is a zone of eternal snow and glaciers. The climate in Kyrgyzstan is a classic continental one with hot summer and moderately cold winter and great extremes of temperature between night and day. The air is generally very dry and most rains fall in spring, especially in March and April; the weather in May may be changeable but is usually warm; June is warm-hot; July and August is very hot; September is warm-hot; October is cool and November is cold; December, January and February are the coldest months and the most days are below freezing.
